NOTES: First preview of the Dutch production of Amélie! The Dutch producers seem to have taken bits and pieces from the Broadway, UK and (especially the) German productions, while also adding some new things of their own, which has resulted in a lovely production. It was the first preview, and some small things went wrong, like one of Lucien’s figs falling into the first row and some microphone issues, but nothing major and the cast handled it very smoothly. There were definitely some nerves going around, particularly in the first act. But most of the nerves seemed to have settled during the interval, resulting in a lovely second act. Some things definitely need a little work, but overall, it’s a really wonderful production and I can’t wait to see it again a bit later in its run.

NOTES: A really nice show in the final week of the tour. Ger Otte, Christiaan Koetsier and Anouk Snel have all consistently delivered great performances from the start, but Charlotte Boudry and Keije Schepers (both are still in school) have really made their parts their own and delivered wonderful performances. Also wonderful: Christanne de Bruijn’s voice can get very sharp when she uses her lower register, but they have really worked on that, even making some small adjustments to some of the songs, which makes songs like Halfway much easier on the ears.

NOTES : Final show in Amsterdam and another solid performance. David Schwarz’s Nino is still a really sweet guy, but David seems to have gained more confidence when singing and it shows! My favourite song is still ‘A Better Haircut’, as everyone has so much fun during that song and I love the clever way they’ve managed to include a line about Nino needing to go his hair cut more often.

NOTES: Second preview! Everything about this production is just perfect - the cast, the set, the orchestrations. It was a gorgeous show, and the cast all gave electric performances. Audrey's mic was turned off for her first few lines in 'Goodbye Amélie', but aside from that there didn't seem to be any other issues during the show. Apart from a bit of rustling at the start of act 2, the audio is very clear - although at a few points during the show some of the mics were quite quiet.

NOTES: WOW I loved this so much more than I thought I would! The Tower Theater is very small and intimate, which was perfect for a show like this! There isn't a raised stage per se, rather the seats are raised on the actors are on the performing floor. The band is in the back on a slightly raised stage area, so all the instruments really come through. To make the most of the space, during one of the numbers the actors actually perform on the risers above the orchestra. Corley Pillsbury is just fantastic! She's like if Phillipa Soo was an operatic soprano. Includes a pre-show speech by director Christopher Cook. Closing night and final performance.
